December 1, 2007 LAS VEGAS
2006 Covington graduate and Purdue University freshman Logan Brown competed at the 2007 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational this weekend, finishing 2-2 in the tournament.
Logan entered the tournament with a 6-2 record and unseeded.
He began the tournament with a tough major decision loss to the 16th ranked wrestler in the nation, Jared Villers of West Virginia. Villers entered the tournament as the sixth seed.
He then bounced back with an impressive 13-3 major decision over Harvard's Jonathon Butler and an 11-8 decision over Dave Crowell of Pittsburgh.
This set up a match with the 12th ranked 197 pounder in the nation and third seeded wrestler in the tournament, Daren Burns of North Carolina-Greensboro.
The Purdue freshman had Burns in trouble and had the match tied 5-5 with three seconds left. But Burns managed to escape at the last second to hand Brown a 5-6 loss.
Burns and Villers, the two wrestlers to earn victories over Brown, would go on the battle for third place with Burns pinning Vullers in 1:55.
Logan Brown now stands at 8-4 on the season.
