After recording a 4-1 record in his first varsity tournament two weeks ago, Purdue freshman Logan Brown followed with another impressive outing in the ACC/Big Ten Clash in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Saturday.
Brown finished 2-1 in the tournament to raise his season record to 6-2. Along the way he defeated the 20th ranked 189-pounder in the nation, Brent Jones from the University of West Virginia.
Jones scored first in the match with a takedown with 51 seconds left in the first period. Brown quickly escaped to make the score 2-1 in favor of Jones at the end of the first.
The Purdue wrestler started in the top position in the second period. Jones capitalized, recording a reversal to take a 4-1 lead. Again, it took Brown little time in escaping to cut the margin to 4-2.
The third period started with Logan Brown in the down position. He took advantage with his third escape of the match, but was then called for fleeing the mat to make the score 5-3.
Needing to make a move with the clock running down, Brown immediately scored on a takedown to tie the match at 5-5.
Jones escaped to reclaim the lead 6-5, but Brown scored on the winning takedown at the 6:52 mark of the match to take a 7-6 win.
Purdue is back in action on November 30 and December 1st at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
