Logan Brown, a 2006 Covington graduate and red-shirt sophomore at Purdue University, improved to 6-0 on the season with an impressive effort at the Boilermaker Challenge last Saturday.
The 13th ranked 197-pounder in the nation swept all three matches as the Boilermakers won 26 of 30 individual matches on the afternoon.
Brown opened his day with a 4-1 decision over John McClue in a match he had to earn with the score knotted at 0-0 heading into the third period.
Logan scored first in the third period as he chose the down position and escaped for the point. He then recorded a takedown for a 3-0 lead, but surrendered a point to McClue on a penalty point.
Leading 3-1, Brown cruised through the rest of the period and earned a final point with riding time.
Logan then took on Glen Jackson of Campbellsville and started the match with a first period takedown. He then increased the margin to 4-0 with a near fall as Jackson chose the bottom position to begin the period.
Brown then chose neutral in the third period and increased his margin to 6-0 with anther takedown. Jackson's lone points came on an escape, but Logan earned one final point due to riding time to take the 7-1 victory.
He concluded his afternoon with his most impressive performance, a 21-9 major decision over Scott Penny of Northern Illinois.
Brown scored the first of his nine takedowns in the first period, but surrendered an escape to make the score 2-1 at the end of the frame.
Logan then deferred to start the second period and Penny chose the down position and escaped to tie the score at 2-2.
Confident he could control the match on his feet, Brown scored three takedowns in the second and each time let his opponent back to his feet to make the score 8-4 heading into the final frame.
The Purdue sophomore closed the match by putting on a takedown clinic as he recorded five more takedowns after recording a reversal. The end result was a dominating 21-9 victory.
With two tournaments under his belt and a perfect 6-0 record, Logan gets back into the gym for the next few weeks in preparation for the 27th annual Cliff Keen Inivitational in Las Vegas on December 5th.
