NOVEMBER 14, 2009 - PURDUE
2006 Covington graduate and junior wrestler for Purdue University Logan Brown has gotten off to a fast start this season in his quest to become a three-time NCAA Qualifier and an All-American.

The 14th ranked 197 pounder in the nation steamrolled through the Eastern Michigan Open to claim his second straight championship in the event and then went 3-0 at the Northwestern Duals to improve to 7-0 on the young season.

In Purdue's season opener at the Eastern Michigan Open, Brown recorded an 18-9 major decision over Ryan Selley of Michigan and then advanced to the semifinals with a medical forfeit victory over Tim Lutke of Edinboro.

Brown then defeated Tyler Dickenson of Michigan State 3-2 to set up a showdown with Anthony Biondo of Michigan, the #17 ranked wrestler in the nation. The two had met two years ago with Brown capturing a big win, while Biondo was injured and forced to sit out the season.

In a tough, grueling match, Brown gutted out a 4-3 victory as he suffered a minor injury late in the match.

"He kind of torqued my knee in the third period," Brown explained. "I thought I was hurt pretty bad, but I was able to walk it off. I had it coming though because of what happened a couple of years ago (when Brown injured Biondo). I don't blame him for it. I would have done the same thing to him. That's wrestling."

At the Northwestern Duals on Saturday, November 14th, Logan cruised to three straight wins, including his second major decision of the year. This came in his opening match against Stanford's Richard Kessler as the Purdue grappler dominated for a 10-1 victory.

He then defeated Dustin Baumin of Northern Illinois by the score of 6-2 and closed out the afternoon with a 6-0 victory over John Schoen of Northwestern. It capped an impressive day where Brown only surrendered a total of three points, while scoring 22 in the duals.

Brown and Purdue are back in action this weekend at the Missouri Open in Columbia, Missouri before heading out to Las Vegas on December 4th and 5th for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Logan Brown has his eyes on a bigger prize in 2010.
