Logan Brown shakes hands with Purdue Coach, Scott Hinkle.

January 25, 2008
Former Buccaneer and current Purdue freshman Logan Brown recorded his first Big Ten victory on Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Brown's victory came over the No. 14 ranked 197 pounder in the nation, Anthony Biondo in a dual between the two Big Ten programs.

The match was close as neither wrestler could get much of an advantage throughout the first period.

But in the second period Brown scored on a takedown to take control. Brown then tried to turn his oppenent, injuring Biondo's shoulder in the process.

Biondo was ultimately forced to default due to his injury time expiring.

The impressive victory over a nationally ranked opponent moves Brown's record to 18-7 in this, his freshman season.

Meanwhile, the Boilermakers managed to win just three of the ten matches against sixth ranked Michigan team and fell by the score of 24-12.

Purdue is now 8-3 on the season.

Purdue then took part in the Wendy's Duals at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio on Sunday and swept all three duals.

The Boilermakers defeated Ashland 34-3, Northern Illinois 24-16 and Liberty 24-19.

Brown went 3-0 on the afternoon to improve to 17-7 in his first season at the collegiate level.

He began the day with a 7-5 decision over Ashland's Josh Ohl as he recorded two first period takedowns and and escape to take a 5-3 lead in the third round. Ohl sent the match to an extra frame with a late takedown, but Brown recorded the victory with a takedown of his own in sudden death.

In his second match of the day, Brown defeated Jake Smith from Northern Illinois, 4-2.

After a scoreless first period, Smith recorded an escape to go up 1-0. But Brown quickly took the lead with a takedown to send the match into the third period with a 2-1 lead.

Brown then increased his lead to 4-1 with a reversal and held on for the victory.

The freshman concluded his afternoon with a dominating performance against Brandon Johnson of Liberty.

Brown started the match with three takedowns and three near-falls to go up 12-2 at the end of the first period.
