BUCCS GET WIN OVER TOUGH EATON TEAM...
The Covington wrestling team faced off with a very tough Eaton team on Tuesday, but was able to come out with a 39-27 win.
Bryce Smith picked up an exciting with at 170 pounds.

FEBRUARY 5, 2019 - EATON
Covington's high school wrestling team traveled to dual Eaton on Tuesday night in a matchup that has proven extremely competitive over the years. The Buccs managed to come out on top with a 39-27 victory over the well-coached Eagles to improve their dual meet record to 18-4.

Starting at 160 lbs., Dylan Burns gave the Buccs a great start with an 8-4 decision over district qualifier Zach Smith, followed by Bryce Smith's exciting pin over Remington Asher at 170 lbs. Gavin McReynolds (182) then pushed the Buccs lead to 15-0 with a pin over Nick Imhoff.

Eaton then bounced back and tied the team score, 15-15, with pins by Holden Sittloh (195) and district qualifier Seth Bowman (285) over Jesse Fisher and Clayton Stephan, and a 6-0 decision by Skyler Straiszheim (220) over Dylan Staudt.

The Buccs would then reel off four wins to lead, 36-15, as Kellan Anderson (113) received a forfeit, Cael Vanderhorst (120) pinned district qualifier Owen Hewitt, Riley Richards (132) pinned Dominic Isaacs, and Connor Sindelir (138) pinned Jaelynn Trantanella.

Eaton made things interesting as their state runner-up Wade Moneybrake (138) pinned Austin Flick, and their next wrestler, KeAnthony Bales (145) pinned Jensen Wagoner to narrow the score to 36-27, before Covington's Keringten Martin won the final match with a 5-2 decision over Chris Weadick. Gavin Swank (152) picked up a pin in JV action for the Buccs.

Gavin McReynolds sticks his opponent at 182 pounds.

Covington's Jr. High team concluded their season in impressive fashion, defeating Eaton, 52-23, to finish with a 6-1 dual meet record.

Michael Hagan (80), Dalton Bishop (86), Lane Jay (98) and Trey Kiser (142) all won by pin, while Chase Vanderhorst (116) won by major decision, and Tanner Garrett (104), Banks Koffer (110), Tyler Basye (128) and Charles Morrison (245) won by forfeit. Kaden Hughes (110), Brian Morrison (116), Aaron Jackson (122) and Trey Schmelzer (128) also wrestled well for the Buccs.

Covington's high school returns to the mats Wednesday, February 6, in a double dual at Wayne at 6 pm.
