2006-07 Covington Buccaneers...

The Buccaneers are coming off an outstanding campaign last season where they finished with an 18-4 dual meet record and were voted as the most improved Division 3 team by the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association. Gone from that team are eight graduates who combined for nearly 200 individual victories, including Covington’s first state champion – Logan Brown. Despite these losses, the Buccs return eleven wrestlers from last year’s squad – nine of whom enter the season as returning lettermen.

Seniors Ryan White, a three-time letterman, Michael Corkhum and Travis Wamer head up Covington’s team. They are joined by juniors Logan Hall, Justin McMillion and Jake Wise, along with sophomores Sam Herron, Jake Jennings, Quentin Layman, Jesse Pearson, Cody Swabb and Reggie Clark. White, Hall, Wise and Jennings are returning District alternates from what turned out to be the toughest sectional in the state of Ohio. New to the team are freshmen Matt Breisch, Jerry Evans, Dylan Gustin, Josh McMillion and Josh Shefbuch.

Despite being a relatively young team, the Buccs once again face an ambitious schedule that includes some of the best teams in the state. Covington returns to the very challenging GMVWA Holiday tournament where they may be the smallest school in the forty-five team field. The team will also dual a number of the top Dayton area squads in Troy, Versailles, Dixie and Mechanicsburg.

The Buccs have two home duals this season – Oakwood and Versailles – and will strive to hang onto league bragging rights when they compete in the Covington Invitational, which includes their Cross County Conference rivals, along with Lehman. Additionally, Covington will once again host the Division 3 sectional tournament.

Please come out and support the Buccs as we look forward to a successful season!
