The Covington wrestling team honored their moms and dads during their Parents‚ Night tri, then went out and won both of their duals in convincing fashion. Their first victory was an expected one over Twin Valley South, a first year program with low numbers. The Panthers gave a great effort against the Buccs, but Covington‚s experience showed as the Buccaneers won handily, 60-0. Winning by pin for Covington were Jordan Tebbe (112 lbs.), Logan Hall (145 lbs.), Ryan Vanderhorst (152 lbs.), Kyle Chalmers (160 lbs.), Brian Ely (171 lbs.) and Logan Brown (189 lbs.).

The Buccs then faced off against Dayton Christian, a team that is historically strong in the lower weight classes. Ryan White (130 lbs.) experienced this as he lost a tough match by technical fall, despite a valiant effort, to Dayton Christian‚s Robel Campbell, a state-ranked wrestler. This would prove to be the only loss of the evening for Covington as the Buccs went on to defeat the Crusaders, 51-23, after giving up 18 points to forfeits.

This dual featured a number of exciting matches that went back and forth, including Justin McMillion‚s 16-12 decision over Kyle Tatum at 135 lbs. At 112 lbs., Jordan Tebbe was behind most of his match before pulling out a 6-4 victory over Matt Fisco of Dayton Christian. Bobby Wiltshire (140 lbs.) also found himself in a see-saw battle, but came out victorious with a 6-4 decision over D.C.‚s Brennan Black.

Winning by pin vs. Dayton Christian were Logan Hall (145 lbs.), Ryan Vanderhorst (152 lbs.), Brian Ely (171 lbs.) and Logan Brown (215 lbs.). In all, ten Covington wrestlers went undefeated at the tri meet, including Jordan Tebbe, Justin McMillion, Bobby Wiltshire, Logan Hall, Ryan Vanderhorst, Kyle Chalmers, Brian Ely, Logan Brown, Jake Wise (189 lbs.) and C.J. Potter (275 lbs.).

The Buccs start the post-season on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11 and 12, as they host the Division III sectional tournament at Covington High School. The first session starts at 5 pm on Friday while finals are set to begin at 6:30 pm, Saturday.
