BUCCS FINISH SECOND IN TRC

CASSTOWN – Covington finished in 2nd place out of 7 teams at the Three Rivers Conference (TRC) meet on Saturday.  Miami East won the event, while Bethel placed third and Milton-Union fourth.  Ten of Covington’s thirteen competing wrestlers earned medals by placing in the top-three of the event.

Jericho Quinter (126) earned his second TRC title, after missing the tournament his junior year.  Quinter defeated state-qualifier Payten Mayfield, 8-6, to take first place, while also earning a pin and a technical fall in the earlier rounds.

Michael Hagan (132) won his third consecutive TRC title in the league’s third year of existence.  Hagan earned three consecutive pins – all in the first period – to claim first place.

Chase Vanderhorst (138) claimed his second TRC title, after missing the tournament as a sophomore.  Vanderhorst was also voted as the TRC wrestler of the year.  Mason Epperson (175) also finished as TRC champion, earning two pins on the day.

Caleb Ryman finished in 2nd place at 138 lbs., dropping an overtime decision to Miami East’s Layton Hughes.  Ryman finished with 3 pins at the tournament.  Carson Taylor (113) also finished in 2nd place for the Buccs.  Diego Lopez took second place at 150 lbs., earning a pair of pins on the day.

Taking third place for the Buccs were Eddie Deaton (106, pin), Jonny Miller (120, pin) and Aveyen Meek (165, 2 pins), 

Covington hosts the Sectional tournament on Saturday, February 23.

In Jr. High action, Covington finished in 2nd place out of 5 teams with ten wrestlers finishing in first or second place.

Winning the TRC title for Covington were Wyatt Kerber (98, pin), Gavin Brown (110), Izaiah Mumford (116, pin), Gibson Leach (142, 2 pins) and Hayden Wintrow (205).

Taking 2nd place were Kolson Petty (80), Landyn Carnes (92), Weston Roth (122, pin), Cooper Turner (128) and Ryan Brown (172).

Covington MVKWA Youth Wrestling Meet at Sidney

Covington travelled to Sidney for a Miami Valley Kids Wrestling Association (MVKWA) meet on Sunday. The event included Ada, Allen East, Arcanum, Kenton, Miami East, Troy and host Sidney.

Taking first place for the Buccs were Brawley Sides (2 pins), Oliver Ouellette (pin), Mason Ouellette (pin) and Braden Hole.

Finishing second were Dalton Brown (pin), Blake Lucas, Ethan Owens (pin), Carter Roth and Ayden Cheatle. Brayden Feight took third place, while Zaidyn Sherman and Harvey Snyder placed fourth.

Each of the kids gained valuable experience and represented Covington well. The Buccs travel to Northmont on Sunday, Feb. 11.
