2023-24: BUCCS FALL TO VERSAILLES IN DUAL

COVINGTON – Covington High School and Jr. High hosted Versailles in a dual on Tuesday night, with each team dropping their contest to the Tigers. The high school team lost 22-57 while the jr. high dropped a 24-67 contest.

Winning for the high school were Carson Taylor (113, pin), Jericho Quinter (126, pin), Michael Hagan (132, pin) and Caleb Ryman (144). The Buccs had to forfeit two weight classes (215, 285) and were without two starters, Chase Vanderhorst (138) and Aveyen Meek (165).

Winning for the Jr. High were Gavin Brown (104), Isaiah Mumford (116, pin), Cooper Turner (128, pin) and Gibson Leach (150, pin).

The Buccs host Piqua on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 6:30 pm.

Best of the Midwest Jr. High Invitational

Covington’s Jr. High wrestling team finished in 11th place out of 49 teams at the Best of the Midwest Invitational on Saturday, finishing with a school-record 7 placers at the event.

Isaiah Mumford (110 lbs) and Brody Taylor (92) led the way for the Buccs, each earning multiple victories with a single loss to take 3rd place overall. Weston Roth (116) was Covington’s next highest place-winner, taking 7th place with a 4-2 record.

Finishing in 8th place were Kolson Petty (80), Wyatt Kerber (98), Gavin Brown (104) and Haydan Wintrow (205). Cooper Turner (122) finished 2-2, while Landyn Carnes (92), Matt Schneider (134) and Gibson Leach also earned victories for the Buccs.

Covington MVKWA Youth Wrestling Meet at Greenville
Sunday, January 7, 2024

Covington travelled to Greenville for a Miami Valley Kids Wrestling Association (MVKWA) meet on Sunday. The event included Fairborn, Jamestown, Milton-Union, Richmond and host Greenville.

Taking first place for the Buccs were Brayden Feight (2 pins), Braden Hole (3 pins), Mason Ouellette (1 pin), Oliver Ouellette (2 pins) and Ethan Owens (2 pins).

Finishing second were Brawley Sides (1 pin), Harvey Snyder (2 pins), and Zaidyn Sherman (1 pin). Dalton Brown took 3rd place, while Ayden Cheatle and Carter Roth finished 4th.

Each of the kids gained valuable experience and represented Covington well.
The Buccs travel to Miami East on Sunday, Jan. 21.
